Tuesdays are beginning to get a decent turnout, as Heidi is becoming a regular, adding to Simon and Tracey. Today, we also had Lloyd and two Steves come down. Awesome! I got in some handy teaching practice on the kimura, trying to come up with a way to make the positioning memorable. I tried 'knuckles and thumb to elbow', which sort of works, at least on top side control, far arm, guard and from mount, but it doesn't apply on the back or near arm side.

I also got to practice my shin in elbow escapes with Tracey, drilling that with resistance. I need to focus more on the arms, getting that two on one before the knee goes in. Also, preventing them crushing down. The swivel out seems to be the easiest option to progress from there, so that's what I'll try.

Finally, as I'm doing a press-up challenge anyway (thanks Pippa!), I thought I'd work on doing them the StrongFirst way. It's a lot tougher than normal press-ups, as you keep your elbows by your sides. The part I keep having trouble with is raising your hips. I used to do press-ups everyday back as a teenager and at uni, so keeping the hips in line is an ingrained bad habit (from a StrongFirst perspective, at least). I'll keep practicing.
