This website is about Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ). I'm a black belt who started in 2006, teaching and training at Artemis BJJ in Bristol, UK. All content ©Can Sönmez

I went through some half guard passing with Rich M and Josh, showing the three main passes I tend to teach. That's the pressure pass (I showed the head clamp version, along with Saulo's option where your put your shoulder lower on their body, which I think I may now prefer), the hip switch and the opposite side pass. We did a little sparring after that, always good to get in some rolls.

I was looking to put myself in weaker positions rather than just driving through for the top each time, so got to work my side control escapes. I'm relying too much on that running escape survival posture again, so need to remember to go for the basic escape too. I'd like to give the shin in elbow a play too, but my wariness of gripping too much is hindering me in general at the moment. That's something I need to sort out: I've got my fingers taped up anyway, but there's a psychological block there now. I'll keep working on it. :)
