21/01/2017 - Sunday Open Mat

Class #943
Artemis BJJ (MYGYM Bristol), Can Sönmez, Bristol, UK - 21/01/2017

Really good session today. Huge turnout for an open mat, to the extent that the mats were almost too small to fit everybody, even with the additional space created by the studio now being matted wall-to-wall. If this keeps up, I'll be able to move the open mat downstairs, perhaps the nogi class too. I think I will test it out initially, perhaps with just 30 minutes to an hour of open mat downstairs, with the final hour back upstairs. It is triple the cost to rent downstairs, so not a decision I'd take lightly, but there have been quite a few new sign ups recently. It makes sense to reinvest that back into the club. :D

As normal, some video below, which also shows the nogi class size. I'll write that up later, but it was fun to teach, particularly as Lisa's efforts have built up the attendance considerably (she taught two 'intro to nogi' classes while I was away in Portugal). I also got some rolling in at open mat with Kirsty, who continues to be an increasingly tough opponent. Eventually sunk that gi lapel choke from side control, which I'd been trying to sneak to her neck in various other positions. Her defence was tight, so it took quite a while to stealth past them.
