Chatting online to Jeff yesterday, I mentioned my open guard woes and he suggested several options, one of which was the idiot/dummy sweep. For the Thursday open mat, I decided to focus on that. I'm not keen on the name (both a bit mean and not descriptive), so I'm renaming it push sweep until I come up with something better. Maybe push and trip? I'll come up with something. Anyway, basic version works pretty well, I didn't get the hang of the Garry Tonon variations at all. Something I'll keep playing with.

Anyway, on the basic version. Splaying out your feet, then pulling them back while you simultaneously 'cup' your hands and push just above both knees. Then come up ready to pass.

I also tried some follow ups, mainly single leg sweep variations. That seemed to work ok. With Paulina, I then went through some open guard passing details, using the low crouching kind of thing I like to do, into the headquarters position. From there, all sorts of passes you can try.
