Another quiet one today, so I got in a load of drilling with Matt. We ran through what I was planning to teach tonight, which is the usual maintaining open guard lesson. I then went through some spider guard, as I think it would be good to do a class on that this month. A simple maintaining spider guard lesson would be good, adding in the very handy lasso after that. Also useful for the smaller grapplers who have been saying how they're finding themselves getting squished a lot. I can totally sympathise: I found that lasso really useful when I was a white belt.

The downside is that I don't have all that much on top of the lasso. There is the sweep when they pass to the other side, along with a potential omoplata. There isn't all that much from standard spider guard either, except for the tricky to get overhead sweep, along with the more straightforward triangle set up. Chelsea showed a bunch of stuff from there, so I could try that one too. Although the twisting might be difficult with my current knee injury, but I'll rewatch the vids.
