This website is about Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ). I'm a black belt who started in 2006, teaching and training at Artemis BJJ in Bristol, UK. All content ©Can Sönmez

25/04/2017 - Open Mat (Tuesday)

Class #816
Artemis BJJ (MYGYM Bristol), Can Sönmez, Bristol, UK - 25/04/2017

From yesterday, my training partner was doing a good job at blocking sweeps by getting an arm out, almost like active posting. I probably need to shoulder clamp more. Either way, useful training for dealing with that arm, same thing he managed in that video I got from a while ago. Most of the Tuesday session was dedicated to working with Tracey, although there was another student there for a bit earlier. We practiced some side control stuff, starting with an escape where you spin out from underneath, plus I talked a bit about frames.

Then there was the question of back escapes. We had a play with one where you grab the arm, particularly the risk of getting armbarred if you're not careful. There is something similar on the Ace of Escapes instructional I now want to try, as it looks like it could fit nicely with this option (on his version, Gustavo notes that he only does it on the overhook side, due to that armbar risk).
