This website is about Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ). I'm a black belt who started in 2006, teaching and training at Artemis BJJ in Bristol, UK. All content ©Can Sönmez

Class #1105
Artemis BJJ (MYGYM Bristol), Can Sönmez, Bristol, UK - 31/01/2019

I added in the details from what James Boyle taught, also having a quick go at running through the same technique he showed at the Artemis BJJ Camp. He does his armbar off a rather nasty choke, so I ended up mostly focusing on the handy detail he has on bring your arm out to turn your hips down, so your chest turns towards the floor. That adds plenty of leverage to the overhook guard position.

Also, if you retain your collar grip, it straightens out the arm and can result in a submission right there. Which also means I need to keep emphasising people do this slowly, as that sub might come on unexpectedly depending on how flexible the person is and where their arm ends up.
