08/05/2018 - Tuesday Daytime

Class #978
Artemis BJJ (MYGYM Bristol), Can Sönmez, Bristol, UK - 06/05/2018

Good fun at daytime class today. I ran through the low mount to high mount transition again, but this time focused on the spider hand walk after hooking an elbow. Checking some of Seymour's excellent Borehamwood BJJ vids, he has a good pointer on angling your spider walk about 45 degree away from their centre, rather than trying to meet their force by going straight up towards their head. Emphasising the steady sequence of cross face, spider walk, knee up, then switching to the other side was useful too.

I then went into a few submissions that flow of that, which also felt good. On the armbar, staying tight, as well as staying upright and pulling the far arm in for both balance and preventing their escape ability. I finished with an americana, noting the hook on the leg Gracie Combatives style, as well as my usual super high americana. I will go with the armbar next week, I reckon, maybe some more pointers on s-mount? I can practice that on Thursday.

Also launching a NEW class next week at a potential long term second venue, The Exercise Club in Clifton. We went through a string of failed second venues when we initially started Artemis BJJ (Longwell Green, then towards Downend, then in Kingswood), they all fell through for various reasons. I'm hoping this one could be the option that sticks. I'm starting with 11:00-12:00 on Mondays, hopefully building from there.

Fun spar again with Josh at the end of daytime, playing around with tripod sweep combinations. Good times.
